As the saying goes, every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end, and as I wrap up my initial week of remote work from Jakarta, I am eager to share my progress on this enriching journey with Pratham Education. As I've just landed in Delhi, the prospect of physically being in the Pratham office fills me with anticipation.
My first week of the internship has been focused on laying a solid foundation for the journey ahead. Central to this was establishing a robust workplan that will guide me throughout this endeavor. I had the opportunity to reconnect with the team at Pratham and refine the project deliverables in response to the evolving nature of the program.
It has become clear that my role extends beyond impact evaluation. My internship now encompasses three main deliverables, each as crucial as the other.
Firstly, I am tasked with the creation of the Second Chance program's theory of change. This involves understanding the program's underlying problem, inputs, outcomes, and long-term goals, setting the stage for a comprehensive understanding of the initiative.
Secondly, I am mapping the Second Chance program's mobilization process. Given the unique demographics of each state and the comparatively low levels of educational awareness, this is an essential task. It will assist in devising effective strategies to recruit more students to the program.
Lastly, and arguably the most thrilling aspect of my role, involves conducting an impact evaluation. This stage requires me to design a comprehensive survey, aimed at the program's alumni, to trace their journeys after they have graduated from the Second Chance program. The goal of this survey is to examine the alumni's advancement in terms of women's empowerment, their continued pursuit of higher education, and their successful integration into the workforce.
What truly sets this part of my internship apart is the field visit. This immersive experience allows me to travel to various locations and interact directly with the program's alumni. By gaining firsthand perspectives and feedback from these resilient women who have lived the experience, I'm able to ensure the survey design can truly encapsulates their journeys and the program's impact on their lives. This invaluable feedback aids in refining and optimizing the survey design, ensuring it is both effective and empathetic.
This field visit marks a key highlight of my internship. It is a unique opportunity to step out of the theoretical realm and into the heart of the program's impact – a chance to see the faces behind the figures and hear the stories that breathe life into the data. I hope the insights gathered from these personal interactions will not only enrich the survey design but also provide a deeper understanding of the program's effectiveness in transforming lives.
These key deliverables will shape the course of my internship. I am thrilled at the prospect of contributing to the evolution of the Second Chance program and helping to enhance the lives of many women.
As I end this post, the countdown to my arrival at the Pratham office continues. I look forward to sharing more updates and insights with you from the heart of the action!
Until next time,
Safira
